The story of his martyrdom represented the life of a believer who went through a narrow escape, not to be deprived of carrying the cross, but to avoid falling into a trial as he had not been invited to sacrifice his life by a clear invitation. And perhaps feared lest he would fall in human weakens. But GOD Was strongly Glorified in him. God made him a vivid example of the of suffering and brutality that can not be tolerated by the human nature. Thus announcing what had already been written by Apostle Paul: "My Strength is completed in weakness ". The martyrdom of this Saint took place in North Africa about 260 A.D. During the reign of Galenios the persecution was intensified in North Africa, Arcadeus disappeared. He had fled from Ceaserea fearing of possible instability before suffering. As the magistrate did not locate him among those sacrificing for the idols, he started looking for him. A soldier grabbed one of his relatives who was alone in the house of Arcadeus. When Arcadeus heard about the capture of his relative he left his hiding place and surrendered himself so as not to let his relative to endure suffering because of him. Taking command of The magistrate asked him to present incense to the idols. As he refused the magistrate ordered that his body should be cut off part by part.
They started by cutting off his fingers, followed by his hands and feet
As he prayed, glorifying God they cut off his tongue. He was transferred to a handless, feet less body socked in a pool of blood until he delivered his soul.
Some believers came and collected the scattered members of his body and held them with dignity, glorifying God, who Supported His martyrs to boldly endure intolerable suffering
