A1- St Abrakios

The life of St Abrakios shows a living image of the spiritual life in Our LORD JESUS CHRIST. This Spiritual life that do not has in its dictionary the words ( Feeling old, being handicapped or feeling boredom). The characteristics of this life are as the Psalmist says “…your life is Renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm:103:5) and as St Paul wrote”…and have put on a new self, which is being renewed in knowledge of the image of its Creator” (Colossians:3:10). He lived in upper Egypt a strict ascetic life for nearly one year, always wrestling, without feeling any boredom, in his asceticism and in avoiding any bodily pleasures. He enjoyed the gift of the Strength gained by this Spiritual life shared with the LORD JESUS CHRIST. Our enemy, the devil, tried to take the advantage that St Abrakios is in a state of weakness due to aging as he reached 90 years old. The devil came to him in unclear image lying and telling him that he still had 50 years more to live. Hoping to conquer him with the spirit of boring so that he may quit his wrestling to pass through the narrow gate that leads to the Heavenly Kingdom. St Abrakios replied “You made me feel sad by this news. I thought that I’ll live for 100 years more, so I did not wrestle strong enough. But as for now I must wrestle more strongly before I die. He wrestled harder and harder. He passed away in righteous old age on 13th of Kiahk . May the blessing of his prayers be with all of us AMEN. Translated by a servant of the LORD.
